Children that are safe will thrive. Healthy things grow and together we can make a difference. This simple premise defines Pathways.
In 1992 Pathways served its first foster children. With a desire to serve tough teenage boys, the small independent home was full in a matter of weeks. Four years of success with boys that had failed in multiple placements was a sign of things to come.
In 1996, after being asked several times to open more homes, Pathways received its Child Placing License. Today with nine branch-offices, Pathways serves 550 children in 200 homes in 50 counties. In 2007, 200 new families will be trained to help children become resilient and thrive again.
Since the beginning, Pathways has matured and grown significantly in the depth of it's services and the size of it's service area. During the late 1990's, community-based service programs were implemented to provide in-home counseling and parenting classes to prevent the break up of families. These services continue in over 18 counties across Texas.
In 2002, we seized an opportunity to revitalize a residential wilderness program that provides short-term adventure programming. With an on-site school managed by the University of Texas Charter school system, this facility is licensed for 48 clients and currently holds a waiting list for teen boys with behavioral difficulties who may otherwise be headed to incarceration or therapeutic lock-up.
In 2004, Pathways started an adoption program to help children without parents find permanent families. In 2006, over 150 successful adoptions were facilitated. Pathways will prepare over 300 families to adopt children in 2007.
Great people with great purpose have continued to make an incredible difference. Today our organization is dedicated to the purpose of creating a culture of safe environments for children and their families.
