Charter School Program were granted a rare privilege. These young men were granted a trip to Austin, Texas to attend a University of Texas baseball game at Disch-Falk Field where the Texas Longhorns Men’s Baseball Team took on the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The Pathways boys were granted the trip through a generous donation from Tarrytown United Methodist Church, who staged a meet-and-greet luncheon where they boys dined upon delicious authentic Mexican food and cool refreshments and were gifted with care packages which included Texas Longhorns clothing and sports apparel.

Afterward, Tarrytown Methodist church members accompanied the Pathways 3H youths to Disch-Faulk Field and took them on a tour of the expansive stadium. The boys were awed by rows of jerseys of former players, championship trophies, game balls, and other irreplaceable sports memorabilia. The Chic-Fil-A Cow Mascot even dropped by for a photo opportunity! Shortly thereafter the young students were led to their seats where the real treat lay in store – front row seats along the first base line! Smiles sat broadly upon the boys’ faces as the Texas Longhorns Baseball Team took to the field. The guys really got into the game, cheering for the players and clapping furiously when Texas scored their only run of the game.

At the game’s conclusion Pathways’ campers expressed their sincerest gratitude toward the members of Tarrytown United Methodist Church for enabling the young men to experience something that none of them had ever done before. Each and every boy in attendance was extremely grateful and pleased with the overall experience. They remarked on the generosity and kindness of strangers and how nice it was that people they had never met before in their lives had expressed an interest in them. Even if the Longhorns lost, the field trip was definitely a grand slam.
