3H Youth Place in Kerr County Stock Show

At the Kerr County Stock Show on January 22nd and 23rd, 7 pigs raised by youth at the Pathways 3H Wilderness Program placed in the top ten. After helping prepare the facility, the boys worked the ring and sold their pigs for $10 a pound to The Cailloux Foundation of Kerrville and The Jack and Ruby Stevens Foundation of Fredericksburg.
The sale will fund next year’s 4H program and put some money in the boy’s savings accounts. Additional revenue from the sale will fund a new 2 acre gardening project that will give the boys experience growing and tending the garden while eventually taking fresh produce to market.
The 3H youth exceeded staff expectations and gained new confidence through the program this year – it is always a pleasure to see the it through. Thanks to all those who make it possible.
