Through foster care, families can change the life of a child in Texas.

Foster Care

You can
change the life
of a child in
foster care

What happens to a child when their family is unable or unwilling to care for them temporarily or even permanently? Where do they receive the guidance and care they need to succeed in school? Who provides the nurturing environment they need to feel safe and thrive?

At Pathways, we recruit, train, and support families who desire to open their homes to children who need a safe, nurturing place to live. Our foster care program encourages the achievement of every child’s full potential by providing a stable and loving alternative family environment. Pathways designs and implements specific treatment plans for each child and their family while working for the best permanent outcome for the child.

Kinship Care

When parents are temporarily unable or unwilling to care for their children, their children may be placed in a foster home, often far away from the people and environments they are familiar with. In many instances, a member of the child’s extended family will come forward to care for the child. When an aunt, uncle, grandparent, or even a close family friend takes on this responsibility, it is called Kinship Care.

A verified Kinship placement receives financial assistance and other supports and services to care for the children placed in their home, but more importantly, kinship care keeps the family intact and can reduce the trauma children experience by being separated from their parents and home. To learn more about becoming a kinship caregiver/foster parent, please visit our training calendar and sign up for the next foster parent orientation.

BECOME A KINSHIP FAMILY

Since its inception, Pathways has helped place and care for over 10,000 children through our foster care services, including over 4,000 children who found their forever family. And, we are just getting started!

Fostering with Pathways & Foster Care Adoption

Our foster parents are both teachers and caregivers. With the comprehensive training and support provided by Pathways, our families can help children placed in their care:

  • Handle their feelings appropriately
  • Develop good relationships with others
  • Succeed in school
  • Become responsible members of a family and their community

Every Pathways family is different, but they all have at least these three things in common; they are caring, they are patient, and they want to make a profound and lasting impact on the life of a child or youth.

Pathways fully supports foster care adoption, as this helps children find placement in a loving home without further displacement.
