Every day, there are over 17,000 children who are served by the foster care community throughout the state of Texas. These children have endured trauma such as abuse, abandonment, and neglect at the hands of those who should have been there to keep them safe. At Pathways Youth and Family Services, they feel it is their job and honor to give children in foster care not only a loving home they deserve but also a holiday season that will be a memory they hold dear for the rest of their lives.
This year has been a turbulent one, to say the least. Children in foster care have dealt with the trials of living in a home they are unfamiliar with, adapting to quarantine, schooling at home, and only virtual visits with their biological family. Together, we can make this year a bit more normal by providing children in care with a magical Christmas season!
In 2019 the National Retail Federation estimated families spent an average of $1,048 on presents and other holiday items—an amount many foster and kinship families are unable to afford. Pathways Youth and Family Services is asking for donations from the community to help create a meaningful season for children and youth experiencing foster care. “The holidays are meant to be a time of joy, full of hope and promise, but for children and youth experiencing foster care, the holidays can actually feel stressful and sad. Our foster and kinship families feel the extra pressure of making the holiday season special for the children in their home, and through the generous support of our community partners, Pathways’ families are able to do just that” says Pathways CEO Tina Amberboy.
Pathways is looking for special members of the community who would like to make Christmas wishes come true for a child in foster care! Your donation of $75 will purchase all the toys on one child’s wish list. Imagine their excitement as they wake up on Christmas morning, seeing their gifts wrapped in brightly colored paper under the tree, and knowing that wonder and hope are still alive and well this holiday season.
Donations can be made using the links below so Pathways staff can safely get the presents to children in need. As Santa’s helpers we need to act quickly, so please donate today so we can ensure that each and every child receives not only presents but joy this Christmas.
